The Chad Smith Foundation proudly concluded an inspiring activation as a Music Education Partner of the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games, providing free interactive music experiences for more than 1,000 athletes, families and fans representing more than 30 states at the University of Minnesota.
Throughout the activation, participants of all ages and experience levels were invited to pick up an instrument, many for the very first time. Guided by volunteer musicians and music educators, guests explored drums, guitars, ukuleles and hand percussion through everything from organized lessons to spontaneous jam sessions, all centered around one simple idea: music should be accessible, inclusive and fun for everyone.
The Foundation's presence supported Chad Smith's role as an Official Ambassador of the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games, bringing to life the organization's mission of expanding access to music education while celebrating the unifying power of music.
Each day built toward one unforgettable moment as hundreds of athletes, families, volunteers and spectators gathered in front of the Fan Fest stage for a massive community Drum Circle. Led by a professional facilitator, the experience transformed individual participants into one unified ensemble, proving that music has a unique ability to connect people regardless of age, background or ability.
"This was one of the most meaningful experiences in our history. Watching thousands of people experience music with absolutely no barriers reminded us why this work matters. It also shows that playing music is powerful, inclusive and really, really fun." — Lewis Smith, Executive Director, Chad Smith Foundation

The Foundation also recognizes the generous support of its partners, whose contributions made the activation possible. Their support ensured that every participant had the opportunity to discover music in an environment built on encouragement, creativity and inclusion.
Latin Percussion (LP) donated more than 100 hand percussion instruments, allowing hundreds of participants to take part in the community Drum Circles.
Sweetwater donated guitars and ukuleles used throughout the activation for hands-on instruction.
Remo donated drums and provided the professional Drum Circle Facilitator who led each day's signature community performance.
The Chad Smith Foundation also extends a special thank you to the University of Minnesota Marching Band for helping make the activation even more memorable. Band members joined the community Drum Circles before taking the Fan Fest stage to perform an honorary Red Hot Chili Peppers song, creating a fitting celebration of music, community and inclusion.
