Rock & Roll Hall of Fame bassist, songwriter, and best-selling author becomes the first member of the Chad Smith Foundation's Advisory Board, helping expand access to music education and inspire the next generation of musicians.
We are proud to announce that Duff McKagan, legendary bassist of Guns N' Roses, has joined our newly established Advisory Board as its inaugural member. McKagan brings decades of experience in the music industry, a passion for education, and a commitment to creating opportunities for young musicians.
As a member of the Advisory Board, McKagan will lend his experience, perspective, and influence to support the Foundation's mission of removing barriers to music education and creating pathways for the next generation of musicians. His involvement will help guide new initiatives, expand the Foundation's reach, and introduce more young people to the life-changing power of music.
A Seattle native, Duff McKagan is a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame bassist, songwriter, and best-selling author best known for his work with Guns N' Roses, Velvet Revolver, and his solo projects. With more than four decades of experience in the music industry, McKagan has built a career that extends far beyond the stage.
In addition to his musical accomplishments, McKagan has become an advocate for financial literacy, personal wellness, and education. His experiences as a musician, entrepreneur, and author have shaped his commitment to helping others develop the knowledge and resources needed to succeed.
"I know what it's like to lose a guitar and not be able to afford to buy another guitar for years. I’ll do whatever I can to help because there might be that person who can't breathe without doing music." — Duff McKagan
Through his involvement with the Chad Smith Foundation, McKagan will help advance opportunities in music education, including the Foundation's expansion into the Seattle area, the development of financial literacy resources for aspiring musicians, and initiatives that give young people greater access to instruments, instruction, and meaningful musical experiences.
The Chad Smith Foundation Advisory Board was established to bring together influential individuals who share a belief in the power of music and a commitment to creating opportunities for future generations.
“We’re incredibly excited about the future of our Advisory Board, and Duff McKagan is the perfect person to help us get it started. Duff comes in with his own expertise and causes that are meaningful to him, and we’re excited to pursue those opportunities together while also drawing on his perspective to strengthen existing initiatives like AMP and expand our impact.” — Lewis Smith, Executive Director, Chad Smith Foundation
Advisory Board members contribute their unique experiences, perspectives, relationships, and expertise to help shape the Foundation's initiatives, strengthen its programs, and expand its impact. By bringing together accomplished voices from music and beyond, the Advisory Board will help the Foundation reach new communities, develop meaningful partnerships, and inspire young people to pursue their musical passions.
McKagan's appointment marks the beginning of this growing group of advocates who will play an important role in supporting the Foundation's long-term vision.
